Shane, 46, has been in Denver for about three months after traveling from the Vermont–New Hampshire border. He identifies as a “gypsy,” someone who’s moved around a lot and prefers being outside, even while working. Shane’s currently homeless but emphasizes that he’s not lazy, not on hard drugs, and trying actively to get his life back on track.

Shane speaks candidly about the emotional toll of homelessness: missing his son’s wedding, becoming a grandfather, being judged unfairly, and watching friends fall apart around him. Yet he also speaks with sharp clarity about personal responsibility, saying, “The only person that's gonna get me out of this is me.”
