Anthony reflects on a life shaped by incarceration, addiction, and resilience. Born in Denver in 1972, he grew up without a father, raised by his mother and grandmother, with a strict military grandfather who demanded discipline. He was in special education classes and often judged or ridiculed by peers, an early wound that carried into adulthood. By age 15, Anthony was involved in gangs, a path that eventually led him to prison six different times, the longest being a 15-year stretch on an 18-year sentence.
Anthony says God is speaking to him now, urging him to “get it together.” He repeats that he knows he’s better than his circumstances and hopes to enter rehab soon. His story is one of cycles of hardship, yet also of compassion, honesty, and the faint but steady belief that change is possible.
