Lindsay — born and raised in Denver, Metro State alum (briefly at law school in Massachusetts) — is living outside after a long struggle with addiction and loss. She and her husband left to escape addiction; he relapsed and died about two years ago while in a sober-living/rehab setting. Their daughter (age eight) is currently living with the husband’s parents
She’s been surviving on the street for about four years, cleans and watches camps, panhandles and hustles for money, and worries about the trash, drugs, and public-health problems in Civic Center Park. She argues re-entry and recovery programs need mentors/peer support and praises housing-first approaches (buying buildings/hotels, vouchers) as the most practical long-term fix.
